Card access systems are designed to regulate personnel access to buildings, or portions thereof, in order to enhance security. Each person intended to have access is issued a an electronically uniquely identifiable access card which is used to gain entry to spaces. Access can be controlled by levels or by individual space, and is stored in a central database which is queried each instance the card is used. Card access systems can either be of the proximity or “swipe” type, whereby the card is held near the access panel or the edge of which is physically traversed through it, respectively.
